An Introduction to Analysing National Standardised Assessments Data

Target Audience: School staff involved in the analysis of data

This course is for anyone involved in the delivery and in the analysing of standardised assessments to children and young people in primary or secondary schools. This course will use a set of demonstration reports to look at the assessments’ adaptive design and the long scale. We will also highlight key features of the Individual report, Group Diagnostic reports and Group Aggregate report that are used to report on children’s and young people’s achievement and progress. We will then consider how NSA data may be used to stimulate professional reflection and discussion and to help inform the next steps in learning.

Creating the Balanced Writer

Target Audience:  Senior Leaders/Literacy Leads in schools that have engaged/are currently engaging with Explicit Teaching Text Types training.

Led by Stephen Graham (in person).  This session will provide an opportunity in the morning to focus on the explicit teaching of two text types (discussion and procedure) that are not covered in the PKC Explicitly Teaching Text types Programme.  In the afternoon, we will consider the assessment and moderation of writing as part of learning, teaching, assessment and review cycle, and reflect on processes to support teacher professional judgements.  We will also spend time examining a whole school approach to the teaching of writing and identify how schools can use scope and progression for the teaching of writing within the school.

Developing Interventions

Target Audience: School leaders and/or any other practitioner involved in developing interventions.

Many schools use PEF to employ additional staff to deliver interventions. Whilst some interventions are evidenced based programmes, others are tailor made to meet the needs of individuals or groups. This session aims to support staff to consider the ‘key ingredients’ of an intervention including planning, implementation and evaluation, to ensure successful outcomes for all learners.

Digital School Awards

Early Reading

Target Audience: Practitioners working in ELC and Early Level Primary

The course will explore how children develop and learn the crucial skills for early reading. Describe and discuss the role of teachers and practitioners in early years to plan to and facilitate experiences that develop literacy skills across learning in meaningful playful and real-life contexts. Why it is important for our very young children to have rich experiences and opportunities to foster a love of reading.

Everyone can Create - Data

Get Into Coding

Target Audience: All staff ELC, Primary and Secondary

This course will:
• Demonstrate how to meet both Computational Thinking and Computing Science outcomes.
• Highlight resources which could support the teaching of coding at a variety of ages and stages.
• Explore some “unplugged” strategies to teaching coding and programming.
• Identify ways to use Apps and Software such as “Swift Playground”, Scratch, Hour of Code etc.
• Provide examples of recommended software and hardware for coding, eg. Sphero Indie, Micro:Bit.

Presenter:  Marie Dunn - Perth and Kinross Council

 

Aims: Hi 5 is an evidenced based intervention which aims to develop more independent literacy skills, promote enjoyment and confidence, and increase reading comprehension.  This approach can be used from primary 5 to S2. It consists of either 4 weekly sessions of 25 minutes in a small group, two with a focus on reading and two with a focus of writing or two 50 minutes sessions.  Schools in Scotland have successfully used this approach running two 50-minute sessions per week. Hi 5 groups should be led by a teacher however can be supported by PSAs working alongside the teacher.  This course aims to equip participants with the knowledge they need to run Hi 5 literacy groups in their school.

Outcomes: Participants will feel equipped to run Hi 5 Literacy groups in their school.  Participants will have additional understanding of processes to enhance spelling.

Introducing Financial Education Across the Curriculum - supporting your Financial Education Journey in Early Years, Primary School, or Secondary School

Target Audience: (1) all ELC and School Practitioners working with Early Level; (2) Primary Teachers; (3) Secondary Teachers

 

This CLPL course is designed to support all ELC and school practitioners, primary and secondary teachers to build their confidence in delivering financial education learning experiences to ensure our young people are equipped with appropriate financial skills. Learning for Sustainability - Moving Forward in PKC

With the launch of the recently refreshed Learning for Sustainability Action Plan, the One World Centre is offering an online CLPL session for teachers in Perth & Kinross. The purpose is to help schools meet the requirements of the LfS Action Plan, especially with regard to every learner’s entitlement to LfS. We know there is a lot of great work going on, and we would be keen to help consolidate and strengthen LfS in schools, particularly the Global Citizenship element.

Play on Pedals 

Target Audience: Practitioner in ELC taking lead for Play on Pedals or Early Years Family Learning Practitioners.

Play on Pedals will teach pre-school children about the parts of a bike, how to fit a helmet correctly and the basics of looking after their bikes. Through a series of fun and imaginative activities, they will be helped to develop their balance and control skills, often using a pedal-less balance bike. Play on Pedals has strong links to the curriculum for excellence.

Aims and Outcomes: Share expectations of the role and responsibilities of a practitioner in Primary 1. Increase practitioner understanding of play pedagogy as an approach to learning and teaching in Primary 1.  Practitioners will have an increased confidence and clarity of the role of a practitioner in Primary 1 to support high quality interactions and play experiences. Using National Standardised Assessments Data (NSA) to Support Improvement

Target Audience: Senior School Leaders

This course will continue in the same theme as the course, An Introduction to analysing NSA data, to further understanding of analysing of data. It is designed to develop professional use of the NSA reports to support improvement. It builds on the many techniques in the above course to extend understanding along with prompting attendees to make decisions on how to approach analysis of the NSA reports.
