GIRFEC - Getting It Right for Every Child

What is GIRFEC?

Getting it right for every child (GIRFEC) is the national approach designed to help co-ordinate services for children, young people and their families across Scotland.

GIRFEC is a way of working which focuses on improving outcomes for all children by placing the child at the centre of thinking, planning and action.

It is relevant for every service that impacts on children, including staff in adult services who are working with parents and carers.

GIRFEC starts in the universal services of health and education, focusing on early intervention to provide the right help at the right time.

The GIRFEC approach has identified pdf icon Core Components - What They Mean [43kb].
